So English Heritage could fast-track listed status for the buildings. This is a mixed blessing. It seems obvious that the studios should have listed status, however if it prevents the studios from being able to upgrade, reinstall and expand as necessary then it is all the more likely that it will become merely a museum, something that we are opposed to.
We want these studios to continue as studios; for their great and illustrious history of creating great music not to cease, but to continue and grow.

Obviously, having it remain a working studio would be ideal, but surely it would be better to have it as a museum or partly functional studio than as a small block of flats.
After all, many museums host musical performances. Being a studio needn’t mean it ceases to be used as a venue for making or recording music.
@sam – Actually I think it would cease to be a venue for making or recording music, certainly at the same level as it has historically. Can you imagine the next Star Wars score being recorded in a museum? Or a major band wanting to record whilst tourists take photos through the glass? I don’t think it would work.

It’s a big building – how about sectioning some of it off to be an homage to the people who have gone before and keeping the rest to make new music?
